An overview of the LG GD880 Mini

In response to the increasingly demanding public who want a mobile phone that is compact, stylish yet easy to use, but not lacking in features, LG has introduced the impressive GD880 Mini.

Modern mobile phones need to be more than just a communications device, and support for the user’s own media, such as audio and video files, has often become almost as important as the most basic phone functions. The LG GD880 Mini certainly doesn’t disappoint on this front. Thanks to a very impressive screen (which we will get to later), this phone seems perfect for multimedia use. A large number of audio file formats are supported, including MP3, WMA, and eAAC+. Thanks to LG installing a stereo headphone jack on the phone, the user can listen to such files with the headphones of their choice, which could greatly improve the audio experience. If album art is available, the Mini uses it. It also makes great use of the phones accelerometer chip by displaying a great overview of albums, much like the iPhones, when the phone is held in landscape mode. DivX and xVid are supported when it comes to video files, and a really standout feature is the addition of Dolby Movie sound, however this is best appreciated through headphones. Photos look great, with two different overviews available depending on where you hold the phone, and thanks to multi-touch, pinch and zoom works very well.

A very nice camera is included in the LG GD880 Mini. The 5 million-pixel snapper provides excellent image reproduction and thanks to the autofocus function, as well as a host of other settings, including smile and face detection, geo-tagging and digital zoom. The video streams are a bit underwhelming, but are still of reasonable VGA quality at a speed of 30 frames per second. A nice addition is the inclusion of a second camera to facilitate video calls on the front of the phone, an often overlooked feature on many modern phones. A microSD card slot sits on the side of the phone, meaning possible memory upgrades to a massive 32GB.

LG has embedded Twitter and Facebook clients right on the GD 880 Mini’s home screen. This is a huge plus for teens and 20-somethings increasingly online. However, don’t be fooled into thinking that this phone is aimed at the younger market. Thanks to its impressive and functional new home screen design, coupled with its very sleek look, which favors the rough edges of curves, this is perhaps the most mature effort from LG, the maker that produced phones like the Pop, Chocolate and Viewty. .

All things considered, LG has produced a great little phone that retains an impressive number of features despite having a size that worries the “fashionable” phone area of the market. Its large 3.2″ 480 x 854 resolution display is one of the best on the market, and the phone’s versatility and looks will win fans in all areas of the market.
