Learning time management skills

If you’re looking to learn new time management skills, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll learn my four-step process for increasing your productivity almost overnight. These methods can be implemented right away and you can start seeing results almost instantly. Follow these methods, see the results, and start getting more out of your day.

Plan your outcome

The first thing you really need to look at is the outcome you’re working toward or the outcome you’re trying to avoid. We call this the carrot and stick process. These are the things that motivate people, some people are motivated by the carrot and some people work to avoid getting hit by the stick. Which one motivates you the most?

Once you discover this, you can plan the outcome you want. Define it, make a clear picture of it in your head and write down the things you will need to do to reach the goal you are looking for.

Prepare your resources

This is usually going to be time, money, or effort. You’ll usually need to use at least one of these to make progress towards your goals. When learning time management skills, this is a step that people miss. Most commonly, people start a new project only to find that they don’t have enough time to complete it.

Find out what resources you will need and if they are available.

Prioritize your goals

Before taking action (the most important step) you need to make sure your goals are prioritized. I read in a book recently (not sure which one) that there was a man who worked his whole life and made a lot of money, a millionaire. He worked for many years to achieve this goal, but when he reached the goal and earned the money, he didn’t need it and instead continued doing the things he enjoyed: he went fishing.

That man could well have been poor and still spent his days fishing. His goals in his life were not what he initially thought they were. Are you really shooting the right net? Do you really want to achieve the goal you set for yourself?

produce the results

This is perhaps the most important part. Without action you are wasting your time. You now have a plan in place and know the steps you need to take to get started. This is the easiest part, since you’ll probably already know how to do most of the work anyway. Here are some things to keep in mind when working…

  • Are you seeing the results you expected?
  • How long will it take you to see the final goal?
  • Is there a way to make the job you’re doing easier?

Follow these steps, review your results, and I think you’ll be very surprised at what you find. Most of the successful people I’ve talked to have learned this time management skill and use it in their lives. These steps are vital to your success!
