It’s very safe to say that MMA has become more popular today than any other fighting sport, especially since more people are willing to pay to watch it live or on TV instead of wrestling or boxing.

The UFC currently uses many different weight classes to promote fair competition, even more so now that the popularity of the sport has grown so much over the years. And now the number of competitors is much higher than ever, with new male and female fighters entering the sport every day.

As said before, a fighter can win an MMA match in different ways: either by scoring points with clean techniques, punches, takedowns and/or grappling on the ground to win by judges’ decision; knocking out your opponent or forcing them to submit by tapping! If the referee stops a fight because a fighter does not defend himself well or if he is unable to defend himself, that is known as a technical knockout or TKO. The fight referee can deduct points or even disqualify a fighter for illegal contact or a foul, especially if it was committed intentionally or declared a no contest for an unintentional foul.

The biggest difference in MMA over other sports like boxing or wrestling is the actual ring where the fighters compete. Fighters entering this cage must be equipped with the proper equipment. They may only enter a match wearing approved jerseys (for women), shorts, shoes, and gloves.
