Comics as tools for school?

Although it can be said that we live in a visual society due to the affinity of technology with multimedia, the truth is that humans have always been a visual species. It is a well-known fact that the human brain translates all spoken words and other forms of communication into images in order to “read” them. If an image has already been given to the brain, then it doesn’t have to go through the rigors of translating it.

Because children are trying to understand the way adults organize information, presenting images to children during the learning process can be a very effective educational technique. Presenting new information in a visual way spares a child’s young mind from having to interpret spoken words and other communications into images within the brain. In effect, you are giving the child a resource on which to base the organization of information.

One of the most effective forms of visual representation in educational materials has been the comic. The comic not only provides images that are easy to interpret, but it does so sequentially, giving the child who reads it the notion of continuity as well. Just as the brain interprets communication as images, it also fills in the blank spaces between images, creating a kind of “animation” brain to connect relevance between images.

What do children’s stories achieve?

Comics help children create stories. That’s why the most popular children’s reading books are always complemented by pictures that tell a story. This is an especially good way to introduce children to abstract ideas like morality.

Moral stories for children are some of the most difficult stories to craft, but if done correctly, they can help instill a lifetime of good behavior in that child, ensuring a better life for him or her.

Children’s stories are also great for teaching information that requires organization, such as numbers and language. Many adult books that teach the same thing actually do it the same way!

The advantage of children’s comics

If you are looking for a great way to teach your child the basics of life, then you should definitely invest in comic books along with your other children’s short stories. Doing so will help them learn the information more quickly and ensure it sticks for a lifetime, giving that child a head start in school and in all future relationships to come!
