Erectile Dysfunction and Oysters: A Match Made in Heaven?

Oysters are famous throughout the world for being aphrodisiacs. Viagra is well known for its ability to help men suffering from erectile dysfunction. What if the two were combined into an “aphrodisiac cocktail”?

The idea came to an Australian man after undergoing prostate surgery. His doctor informed him that he might suffer from impotence after the procedure, as many men do. He took her Viagra prescription to his pharmacy and filled his order.

Knowing the libido-boosting properties of oysters, he decided he could boost his own libido while curing his erection problems, so he crushed the prescription tablets over some smoked oysters. While many people don’t enjoy the taste of oysters, they still eat them for their reported sex drive benefits.

While it has been hypothesized that oysters may provide humans with some sexual benefits, most of that reputation simply stems from their high zinc content. Zinc has been shown to increase male fertility and sperm production through countless studies. However, the aphrodisiac qualities of oysters and zinc are unproven and might even be considered wishful thinking by some doctors.

Regardless, this Australian man decided to sprinkle his Viagra prescription on his oysters for maximum benefit. He must have liked what he found, because he decided to take his concoction to the next level with his Viagra Oysters.

He soon made contact with some local oyster farmers, hoping to create and sell the world’s first Viagra oysters. The farm accepted the contract and production was underway.

By continuing their regular oyster farming processes and adding a bit of Viagra to the water, they hoped that all the oysters would absorb some sidenafil citrate (also known as Prescription Viagra). Oysters can take up to 3 or 4 years to reach maturity, and the way they are fed almost ensures that some Viagra is absorbed.

The results, although not yet released to the public eye, have been decent according to the manufacturer. there have been different traces of active Viagra in almost all oysters grown with this technique. However, some problems are already brewing.

Because Viagra is a controlled substance and a prescription drug, it might be next to impossible to get these Viagra oysters to most markets. North America, Australia and parts of Europe have already opposed the idea. However, that is not stopping growers as they believe there is still hope of bringing their product to some Asian markets.

Another issue they encountered was directly from Pfizer, the maker of prescription Viagra. When the manufacturer of Viagra Oysters decided to name their product as a trademark, Pfizer immediately went after them to shut them down.

While it was a novel idea, there probably isn’t much hope for these little libido/ED oysters. There would be too many hurdles to jump through, and controlling the amount of chemical Viagra per oyster is proving difficult.
