Flea Elimination: How Do Natural Flea Treatment Solutions for Cats and Dogs Compare?

There are many natural dog and cat flea treatment solutions available on the market and many more newly discovered holistic home control measures that seem to have proven effective for a healthier and safer flea removal regimen.

In fact, many homeowners tend to be under the misconception that because a product or treatment is natural in origin, it must also be safe to use. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. When an originally natural product is applied for curative purposes, there are chemical reactions that can be adverse for the expected general result. Therefore, it is not always true that all natural products and treatments are safe when applied for specific purposes.

With that said, there are still certain natural products that have been used over time and have been shown to be effective at getting rid of fleas without the ill health effects. Take, for example, the simple flea comb. Designed to help remove parasite debris, their eggs and hatching larvae from animal fur, it is a proven product without causing undue harm to the environment, pet and family members. Also, use the time-tested borate powder to kill fleas by sprinkling the powder form on carpets, furniture, and upholstery. Of course, it is necessary to thoroughly vacuum the areas thereafter.

The application of chemical or natural treatments has its drawbacks when used on dogs and cats separately. For example, certain commercially available topical applications are designed specifically for dogs and should never be used on cats, as cats lack certain enzymes in their systems that are unable to break down harsh chemicals. Natural pet flea control treatments like essential oils can literally do more physical harm to cats than good. Garlic should also be avoided whenever possible.

An effective flea removal regimen will generally only be successful with extensive and regular cleaning, a keen and heightened awareness of which natural solutions for dog and cat flea treatment work best, along with conventional methods of thorough washing and combing to get rid of fleas.
