If I skip my Nutrisystem Extra meals, can I double dinner?

Sometimes I hear from people who want a little more flexibility with their Nutrisystem meals. A common comment would be something like, “Sometimes I have a really tough day at work and I come home and I’m really hungry that night. What if I want to eat two of the Nutrisystem dinners? Could you load me up with the bigger one?” ” meals and then skip dessert and snack that day?

Before I try to answer, please note that I am not an expert. It is very easy to contact Nutrisystem and ask someone from the company about this. But here is my opinion. While I’m not sure you want to make a big habit of this because eating two dinners will consume more calories than two snacks or desserts, I don’t think it should be a big deal on a particularly tough day. And from my point of view, it’s certainly much better than cheating on a non-diet dinner. I think it makes sense to make small adjustments that allow you to follow the diet from time to time instead of going off it and eating whatever you want.

But to go a step further, let’s look at a real example. Let’s say that on this particular day, this person chose to eat the flatbread pizza (at 270 calories) and the beef mac and cheese (at 240 calories). that day. That would have saved 100 and 130 calories, respectively, for a total calorie savings of 230. So, in reality, he’s only consuming an extra ten calories if he eats two dinners and skips dessert and snack. That’s certainly not too horrible. And it’s so much better than just opening your pantry and eating something else without worrying about the calorie or carb content.

But, another consideration that you may not have considered is that if you eat two dinners one night, you will be missing one at another time of the month. Therefore, you will be alone that night and are more likely to cheat or eat a lot more calories. Sure, you can always have that snack and dessert you didn’t eat when you doubled over at dinner, but it’s certainly not a proper dinner. Not only that, but if you’re going to do this, you’ll need to plan ahead and make a conscious effort to pass up your snack earlier in the day. So doing this definitely requires advance planning and will definitely require you to make adjustments later in the month. But I still think it’s better than the alternative of just eating something from your kitchen. Because you are still eating a diet meal that will be low in calories and carbohydrates.
