Learn advanced automotive spray painting techniques and automotive spray painting patterns

One thing is for sure, if you are going to be a paint technician how good you are will depend on how well you learn to operate your spray guns. They are the tools of the trade and can mean the difference in whether you are a great paint technician or a poor one. Not only must one learn the various techniques involved with spray guns, but one must also have knowledge on how to maintain spray guns to keep them in peak operating condition. You can master all the techniques, but if your weapon doesn’t work properly, your techniques won’t matter.

You need to visualize what the spray gun does when it’s running, like taking tiny drops of paint and then breaking them down into thousands of tiny particles. What gives the spray gun its ability to do this is its set of nozzles. This is the air cap, paint needle, and fluid tip. There are variables that determine the size of those thousands of paint drops. It will depend on the viscosity of the fluid streams, as well as the amount of surface tension present. The reason you’re not getting a steady flow of paint is because of the compressed air in the nozzle.

Moving on to pistol techniques when you apply light pressure on the trigger the air valve opens. With a little more pressure, open the fluid tip needle and allow the paint to flow.

If you are using a gravity gun. The amount of fluid dispersed is controlled by the viscosity of the paint. Flow is also determined by fluid tip and needle setting. As a general rule, the gun should be almost fully open. With pressurized fluids, air pressure also affects flow.

Equipment configuration:

Knowing how to work with atomization is the key to proper setup. The combinations of the variants must be correct. For example, the exact combination of the correct tip with the correct pressure settings combined with the fluid flow and fan width in all the way they are supposed to be determines the result. Ideally, for standard guns, try to use just enough pressure to get the best atomization and spray pattern.

If you’re new to the world of spray painting, the best advice at first is to keep it simple. In other words, use a type of spray gun that is going to do the job you need it to do. There is no need to buy a spray gun that has a lot of additives if you don’t need them. On the other hand, if you’re going to be using your spray gun on a regular basis, you might want something a bit more advanced, as you’ll probably need it when you venture into your painting jobs.
