As the Best Dog in Best Dog Shows was announced last Sunday, we can be pretty sure that the owners of Caitland Isle Take a Chance weren’t “taking a chance” on pet insurance for dogs. While we enjoyed seeing the most pampered puppies in the Kingdom

Everyone’s show, Crufts, took place at the National Exhibition Center in Birmingham this past weekend. This event has been running
for 115 years and every year it draws a crowd. Watching the show on TV, it’s pretty obvious that the dogs love it.

The Australian Shepherd’s owner, Ms Nancy Resetar of California, USA, was “overwhelmed” when the five-year-old dog, whose pet name is “Chance”, won Best in Show at Crufts, and her guide, Larry Fenner, was “overjoyed.” and “without words”. In
reserve was the Wire Fox Terrier El-Rays Snowtaire Iceni Payback, whose owner hails from Swansea.
The seven categories specified by the Kennel Club, which organizes and runs Crufts events, are hunting dogs, hounds, herders,
terriers, toy, utility and working dogs. Chance and Payback had each won best in their group of herders and terriers.

Other winners from each group included a Welsh Springer Spaniel, Ferndel Maverick Spaniel (Gundogs), a Norwegian Elkhound, Kestos I Spy at Graythor (Hounds), a Pomeranian, Finch’s Ovations for Me (Toys), a Miniature Poodle, Minavers Secret Assignment ( Utility) and a Bouvier des Flandres, Gijs Santos from Dogs Farm (Working).
The first Crufts exhibition was in 1891 at the Royal Agricultural Hall in Islington, and was founded by Charles Cruft, who directed
the show until his death in 1938. Cruft had no desire to join the family jewelry trade, and became a salesman for a
brand of ‘dog cakes’. His work took him to Europe, and it was in Paris that he was asked to organize the canine section of
the Paris Exposition. In England, he staged the Annual Terrier Club Show in Westminster and it was shortly after this that
Crufts officially started. After his death, his widow handed over responsibility to the Kennel Club in 1942 and has
rose in popularity year on year since the first show under the Kennel Club in 1948. It was in 1991 that the show moved
from their headquarters in London to the NEC in Birmingham. This year over 22,200 dogs took part and the owners came to the UK from 32
countries to show their dogs here.
The breed show is the main part of the show, but there are many other fun and exciting events that are now part of the Crufts experience. Events include Agility, Flyball and Obedience, but there are many more events, and dogs love team games. The atmosphere is exciting and stimulating and, for a four-day event, it’s packed with things to do, not to mention hundreds of trading stalls with every possible need for dogs.
However, Crufts is for the privileged few. There are 1.6 million mixed races in Britain alone, and none of them could be considered
to show at Crufts which is the pedigree show. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t show off your dog; tea
The Kennel Club also organizes one of the most popular crossbreed shows in the country: Scruffts. Hot flashes are produced
throughout the year and the winners of each heat are invited to a grand finale. Dogs have a chance to win in four classes,
including the most handsome dog, the prettiest bitch, and the golden old man.
It also doesn’t mean you don’t need pet insurance. Vet bills can be huge, but insurance costs don’t have to be. The vast majority of dog owners would say that they love their dogs, whether they are pedigreed, mixed breed, mongrel, stray, rescue dog, or just mutts. All dogs are faithful and friendly companions, so we must give back what they give to
us giving them the best life possible. Most owners would be heartbroken if they couldn’t afford life-saving surgery, so insuring your dog is a must for everyone, not just champion owners!
