Request Letter Sample Warning

So, you finally finished your resume and now it’s time to write your letter of application. You know that to get noticed you need your cover letter to really stand out to the employer. You want that interview, but you don’t know anything about how to write a letter of application. You understand all the key points, but you’re not good at organizing your thoughts on paper. So you go to your computer, log on to the Internet, and Google “free application letters.”

There are hundreds of websites that offer tons of free application letter samples. You can’t believe your luck. You click on a few sites and find a letter you like. He’s sure this one will knock the hiring manager’s socks off. You feel confident, by copying and pasting it into a Word document, that this letter will guarantee you an interview. Let’s face it, you found it online and it says it was written by a professional, so you can’t go wrong. You change a few words, sign your name and that’s it. Now all you have to do is wait for that phone to start ringing.

Let me tell you, you’re going to be waiting a long, long time for that call. Take the head of this sample request letter warning. While these sample letters can help guide you on how to write an application letter, they should never be used as a substitute for your actual job. Most employers review a myriad of application letters and resumes on a daily basis. Do you really think that free online application letter you “borrowed” is going to grab their attention? Chances are no. Will the sample of your application letter be original? Probably not. Will the application letter be written to show how it meets the needs of the employer? Again, probably not.

Think you’re the first person to search the internet for free cover letter samples? In this internet age where you can find everything you need, you probably won’t be the first person to use a free application letter sample. In fact, it probably happens more often than you think. These employers received countless amounts of resumes and cover letters. They are so experienced in reading application letters that they will be able to tell that yours is not theirs after the first paragraph. This is why your application would really need to stand out to the employer. I doubt the application letter you found online will do that for you.

A good application letter consists of a few key elements. Essentially it is what you can do for the employer. The letter must show why the employer would make a mistake by not calling you for at least one interview. Your letter of application should highlight a few key points on your resume, specifically those points that qualify you for the job you’re applying for. How is a letter you found online going to do that? For your letter to be noticed, it must be original and show your passion for your work. Can an application letter you receive online be original? That is very doubtful. Your letter should also request the opportunity to be interviewed and should provide the employer with options to make that happen. Again, would your sample request letter provide that? If I were a gambler, I’d bet the house that the answer would be no.

Instead of using the Internet to find a free sample application letter to pass off as your own, use the Internet to research how to write an effective application letter. Anything with the word sample in it is meant to be just that. A sample. Something to push you in the right direction. The most important thing to remember is that application letters must be original and must represent you. The only person who can represent you is you. Why would you want to accept a letter of application written by someone who doesn’t even know you? Only you know why you would be perfect for that job. Why rely on a generic cover letter to get that point across to the employer?
