A student travel agent does not necessarily mean a person specializing in locating student tours, or a student working for a travel company labeled as an agent. A student travel agent refers directly to travel companies that handle tour and travel packages for students.
These travel agents, or agencies as they are popularly known, not only sell airline tickets, they also sell cruises and car rentals to students. They organize almost all the activities and itineraries of the entire trip. They handle hotel reservations, complimentary meals, and even stopovers at souvenir shops.
These agents or agencies are dedicated to providing top of the line service for students, or so they promise. They offer adventure packages, cultural packages, educational packages, and even the simplest tour packages for those on a very tight budget.
Adventure packages will bring you closer to nature travel tours, including rafting, mountain hikes, and even wildlife sightings. Adventure tours also include extreme sports such as bungee jumping and skydiving. This type of trip generally requires the student to sign a waiver or release form.
Cultural packs will allow you to explore other people’s cultures. They usually cover historical and landscape shows of the place, as well as allowing the traveler to experience first-hand how people carry out their daily routines, socializing with them and even spending the night away from the comforts of their hotels.
Educational tours are usually trips to museums and other places of historical interest in a certain city or country. Some museums in Rome only allow tourists from tour groups to enter.
Sightseeing tours are those trips where a tour guide usually educates you and visits scenic attractions while riding a bus. An example is the tour in New York to see the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Fifth Avenue, and even restaurants and shops from famous Hollywood movies.
When looking for a travel agent, make sure the agent is affiliated with ASTA or the American Society of Travel Agents. You can be sure that an ASTA member agency will provide you with a stress-free and worthwhile trip.
