The 5 scariest scary movies of 2008

A list of the top 10 horror movies of 2008 that scared the shit out of me. Some of them are unmissable, others are simply showcases of what the year 2008 brought to the horror movie genre. Regardless of what went through my head to make me include these movies on this top list, here are 5 top 10 movies I’ve posted on TotallyTop10.com. Enjoy!

1. Let the right one

Based on the Swedish best-seller Lat Den Rätte Komma In by John Ajvide Lindqvist about a girl, Eli, who one day shows up with a strange older man in the Blackeberg neighborhood of Stockholm. Next door lives the boy, Oskar, who lives a miserable life with his mother, being bullied at school. One night at the playground, Oskar and Eli run into each other and gradually become friends. But there is something about Eli that is not quite right. She only goes out at night and that man she lives with seems more like a servant than a father figure.

2. The Strangers

Inspired by true events, The Strangers takes place in a summer house in the middle of nowhere. A couple is spending the night there after celebrating their friends’ wedding. But they are not alone. There’s a knock on the door, a girl asks for someone who doesn’t live there. Another hit. Now they are in the house.

3. Saw V(5)

As the latest in the classic Saw series, Saw 5 is basically the same as the rest of them. And it’s brilliantly horrible. Some may argue that sequels can never quite match the original. Maybe that’s true. But compared to all the horror movies that have been made this year, Saw 5 is far from the worst of them. Always scary and always very uncomfortable. Just how I like it. Hope you like it too.

4. Last Judgment

Doomsday follows in the footsteps of the end of days: movies like 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead, Resident Evil, etc. Ever since, I’ve been a die-hard fan of these kinds of what-if movies that a virus that turns people into zombies is released into the world. Somehow, that’s the way most horror movie directors seem to envision the end of humanity.

5. Horror Trailer Park

Despite the low number of TPT votes garnered on the Internet Movie Database, and the obvious slasher movie stamp everywhere, Trailer Park Terror is a scary movie. And what would the main list of horror movies be without the attempt to take you to the dark side of slasher fans?
