Training to Avoid Internet Network Marketing Pitfalls – Essentials for MLM Beginners

Today, the computer is viewed by millions as the next gold rush. People are flooding in to get their piece of the pie.

With a 97% failure rate in the MLM industry, a fact that most don’t want to acknowledge. People are losing their money long before they start making anything, if ever.

So it makes sense that the appeal of “you too can earn an extra… blah blah blah a month just by going online and promoting your company’s products.” It is attractive to many. It sounds all too familiar to the “all you have to do is… and you’ll be richer than you ever imagined.” that we all heard in the past.

This hype mentality has been a big part of the murky reputation that network marketing companies have earned.

I find the basic flaw of most, if not all, is that the word marketing is used but never taught.

Most network marketers have no training in the field of marketing at all. The biggest training I received was how to sell what my company produced. They taught me, “if you put a mirror under their nose and it fogs up, they’re a prospect.” The internet sequel to this is, “If they have a computer and they’re online, they’re a prospect.”

When someone starts network marketing on the Internet, and still has no idea of marketing, chances are, before long, they will be frustrated. They may even be more unlucky because, let’s face it, for many of us new to the internet, we have a lot more to learn than being told to drag someone into a hotel meeting.

I believe that the Internet is the future for MLM. Internet network marketing. It gives people the ability to reach far more people than ever before, anywhere, anytime. What needs to be taught, and should have been taught in the old school, is social marketing. I’m not just talking about using social sites, but learning to stay alert to build not only a business, but relationships.

Without the focus on what the person we’re talking to is earning, we’re no better than MLM enthusiast outrages, who made friends cross the street to avoid being invited to another meeting.

It has been said, “there is power in knowledge”, and most people over the age of 40 are clueless when they first hit the net. They need a great deal of education to learn not only skills and techniques, but also theory and etiquette to do this correctly.

I see a great need for trained Internet gurus to advise and guide these often insecure Internet newbies with step-by-step instructions on all aspects of Internet Network Marketing.

You could say, “it’s up to them to take advantage of all available resources.” Why do I care if they get the extra help? The main reason is that I know what it’s like to feel hopeless and terrified when you start using the Internet.

I thought I could just go out there and spew my product information out to millions for the sole purpose of making a lot of money. I was a stranger in a strange land, to put it mildly.

I also want to be a part of sparing the internet all the unprofessional baggage these people will flood the web with, until they understand that it’s not always about selling.

What I have realized through my experience is that it takes time and hard work to learn what you need. No matter how fast you can surf, or how easy it may seem at first, this is not a get-rich-quick experience. This is especially true if you want your presence to be seen on the internet. Even more so, if one of your goals is to be respected as a valuable resource to others.

I believe that those who invest in their own online marketing education first, through mentors, books, seminars, tutorials, will be the ones to avoid failure. If for no other reason than to be a good information resource. Isn’t that what ultimately makes the web such a powerful tool, that people bring value to people?

This brings me to my final point. One of the qualities of the Internet that appeals to me is that with it, the individual can truly own his or her business. Your online business can reflect not only your network marketing company, but also who you are as a person, with all the knowledge and experience you have gained throughout your life.
